I teach English as a second language, and spend a fair amount of time looking at my mother-tongue from the outside. I engage in a lot of writing behaviour, some of which crosses over into actual writing. I'm a heathen, which is to say one of the species of pagan who venerate the NT pantheon (Odin, Thor, you know, those guys).
I'm a total flist-slut. The thing where it says "friends" is my Lj friends list, not a list of my friends. Some of the people there I'm pretty close to, others I've added because they happened to say something interesting or cool or funny, or because they added me first. I have in the past friended people purely so that I could SHOUT AT THEM. I have no problem with random people adding me and will generally add back--plz leave a comment introducing yourself. Don't be shy. (Ditto if you want to be removed at any time. I'm not going to have a drama attack if you ask me to remove your journal from the list.)
Plese do not assume that because someone else is on my flist, the two of you will automatically hit it off. Having me in common is like having the 'flu in common.
Much of this journal is friends-only and a good percentage of that is tucked away within my Labarynthine system of custom filters to protect the innocent. There's a filter for magic-related entries which may interest some of you. Ask to be added.

Note for passing skeptics: Yes, I know much of what I write about is completely irrational, but I tried ignoring it and it didn't go away. I don't proselytise and have no interest in converting anybody to anything. The flip side of this is that I hate getting bogged down in long tedious explanations. If you find yourself experiencing a pressing need to know why I happen to believe a certain thing, imagine an event that would convince you to believe in a similar way and pretend that's what happened.
Note for passing Heathens: I am a Lokean, non-Folkish, a feminist, actively opposed to all forms of racism (especially my own), LGBT-allied, trans-positive and a witch. If you find any of these things disagreeable, I fear this journal will seem a cold and unwelcoming place. Please be advised that I do acually mean that, and am not merely putting it out there as a sop to some notional PC police. All of the above things are very important to me, and that none of them are going to change because you offer me a few links to badly-written articles. I do not honour bigotry as a vital componant of my spiritual path.
Amazingly, I have not made some kind of special exception for Islamophobia, nor for anti-Semitism, nor for whatever your pet prejuice might be. I do not regard this as a minor difference of opinion, something we can agree to disagree on, like whether Freyja likes peaches or strawberries better. I am not on your side. You do not have a friend here. Walk away.
Kindly take it as read that I know how to plug the word "Loki" into Google all by myself.
Note for passing Wiccans: I honour your spiritual path as valid in its own right. That doesn't mean I have to accept it as the One True Ancient Religion. PS: no, you don't have copyright on the word "witch."
Note for people who wish to advise me on my mental health issues/epilepsy: Thank you very much, that's very nice of you. I appreciate tips, advice and support from other sufferers or from their carers and loved ones. I do not appreciate emotional blackmail from people who are anti-medication and need everyone else to be anti-medication too. I do not appreciate being ordered to use your drug of choice. I fully support the concept of neurodiversity, I understand that there are different ways of experiencing conciousness, all valuable and beautiful in their own right; however, I experience my particular way of being as being mentally ill and wanting to get better. If I'm going to affirm and honour your experience, you can fucking well honour mine or you can piss off. Would sane readers kindly take it as read that I know how to plug the words "depression" and "epilepsy" into Google all by myself.
